Part of the mandate of the Presidential Legislative Liaison Office (PLLO) is to assist offices in the Executive branch in legislating their respective priority measures. The Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) developed the Women’s Priority Legislative Agenda (WPLA) as a tool to advance the formulation and adoption of new laws that promote women empowerment and gender equality. Among those included in the WPLA this 19th Congress is the proposed legislation on Reinstituting Divorce in the Philippines.
The PLLO leadership, through its GAD Focal Point System, conducted a seminar-workshop entitled: BREAK IT TO ME GENTLY: The Intricacies of Violence Against Women and their Children (VAWC) and other pertinent Human Rights in relation to the Divorce Bill held at Makati Diamond Residences, Makati City, 30 August 2024.
GAD Advocate Atty. Rowena L. Soriano, legal practitioner and Associate Dean of FEU Institute of Law, served as the resource speaker and workshop facilitator. During the discussion, Atty. Soriano thouroughly presented the salient provisions of the pending Divorce Bills as approved in the House of Representatives and the one pending in the Senate committee. Following a thorough discussion is a workshop which inculcated deeper the learnings from the discussion. PLLO employees and staff also took part in the lively open forum after the seminar-workshop.
