The Senate of the Philippines and the House of Representatives convened a special joint session to welcome Japan Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, 04 November 2023. On the second day of his two-day State Visit, Prime Minister Kishida addressed the Philippine Congress at the Batasan Complex.
In his speech, Prime Minister Kishida highlighted the strengthened relationship between Japan and the Philippines through cooperation in security and defense, economic and investment, and global issues.
According to Prime Minister Kishida, the Japan-Philippines relations have reached the point of being called a “golden age” today. He reiterated his conversation with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. during the latter's visit to Japan in February. They agreed that the two countries would work together to maintain and strengthen the free and open international order based on the rule of law. Prime Minister Kishida also expressed that he will ensure the strong friendship between Japan and the Philippines.
The Presidential Legislative Liaison Office (PLLO), led by Secretary Mark Llandro L. Mendoza, attended the said joint session.
