President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has signed into law the Maharlika Investment Fund (MIF), the country's first sovereign wealth fund at the Kalayaan Hall of the Malacañan Palace, July 18. During the presidential signing of Republic Act (RA) No. 11954, President Marcos emphasized in his keynote speech that "the MIF is a bold step toward's our country's meaningful economic transformation." President Marcos also stressed that "decisions that are being made for the fund are not political decisions; but they are financial decisions, because that is what the fund is."
The Maharlika Investment Fund bill was certified urgent in May 2023. The Presidential Legislative Liaison Office (PLLO) conducted several Focus Group Discussions (FGD) to bridge the Executive and Legislative Branches of government and address the questions and issues raised by the legislators and other stakeholders.
